INTERVENTIONOLOGY
Interventionology is a social research consulting firm, grounded in the core principle that lived experience is expertise. We don't just audit systems — we co-create them with the people who know them best.
We're “insider researchers”: trained in the methods and from the communities we serve. Traditional research embeds outside experts to study communities they’re not a part of. We work differently, because the people most impacted hold knowledge that no degree can replace.
The result: frameworks that go beyond compliance to center community voice, build trust, and hold up over time.
OUR VALUES
We recognize that people with direct experience of systems—whether incarceration, violence, institutional care, or marginalization—hold knowledge that no degree can provide. This expertise informs every framework we build and every solution we design.
Lived Experience as Expertise.
Research as Liberation, Not Extraction.
Traditional research often extracts knowledge from communities while offering nothing in return. We design research systems that build community power, inform advocacy, and create tools that communities can use for their own organizing.
Beautiful frameworks mean nothing if staff can't use them. We create practical tools, provide sustained support, and build capacity so organizations can actually implement change—not just plan for it.
Implementation Over Theory.
Partnership Over Hierarchy.
We don't parachute in as "experts" who tell organizations what to do. We work alongside staff, practitioners, and communities as partners—co-creating solutions through sustained relationships rather than one-time interventions. Real transformation requires trust, and trust requires showing up consistently over time.
OUR APPROACH
Good research outlasts the engagement that produced it.
We start by designing with you — your team and community shaping the questions, not just answering them.
We stay through implementation, not just delivery, so the frameworks work in practice. And we build your team's capacity along the way, so when the project ends, the capability stays. Our research builds power instead of extracting it — and leaves you stronger than it found you.
OUR TEAM
We're small on purpose. When you partner with us, you work with us directly.

CEO & Managing Partner
Compton-born, a veteran, and a mother of Black children, Kam went from high school dropout to a Ph.D. in Sociology — living proof of her conviction that lived experience is expertise. A Certified Social Worker and Social Researcher, she has led federally funded research for the National Institute of Justice and the Administration for Children and Families, secured $650K as Co-PI at Evident Change, and authored Decolonizing Black Gangs. She puts that lived experience to work — on boards and in the field — to change the systems she came up in.

Principal Advisor on Research
A Mexican American researcher from Oakland, California, Bertha brings six years of experience evaluating violence prevention work — from the Hope and Heal Fund to programs in Philadelphia, Sacramento, and Antioch. A qualitative specialist, she turns community narratives into evidence that holds up with funders and systems partners, and serves on the boards of other organizations doing the work. She also DJs on the side.
